Instead of doing the book review for Meridian radio, I was on the receiving end of the interview this time around which is always awkward if, like me, you prefer to report the story not BE the story... Thanks Krys for making it so much fun...
Hooray and break out the rum rations, swab the decks and get everything ship shape..Contracts are now signed for Pirate Gran on Stage and the count down to opening night begins.....I will be wishing 2013 away...
Thanks to John Pye and his great Book Shop in East Grinstead today - I look forward to seeing the signed copies of Pirate Gran and the Monsters in the window later this week. For any of you who haven't been to John's 500 year old book shop I can only say it is a must-visit next time you are in East Grinstead...Lovely coffee too!
I am often lucky enough to be asked to review shows at Chequer Mead and Friday's performance of Old Tyme Muscal Hall by The Company of Friends was simply brilliant...
I always listen to what the audience says as they spill out into the dark and the unkindest thing I heard was "absolutely marvellous!"...and indeed they were. It's difficult to give individual plaudits in a fast-paced ensemble production like this one but MC Kevin Gauntlett was terrific. And I have a special fondness for Bob Wilson...I first saw him as an Etonian fop of a Captain Hook four years ago and it was great to see him reprise To Be a Pirate King...and indeed to see him perform The Marrow Song which had the audience crying with laughter. Great night - thank you all so much for inviting me! I just wanted to thank John Pye, owner of East Grinstead's imaginatively named Book Shop in East Grinstead, for arranging a lovely hour in his "snug" yesterday to meet Adrian Webber and his delightful wife Wu Shu.
We recently reviewed Adrian's Love in Red China's Garden for Meridian radio and it was great to meet him in person, and to hear that he is not embarking on a series of extra marital affairs in order to write Love in Kew Gardens, Love in Wakehurst Place and Love in the Potting Shed. I like a man of principle. However after reading Adrian's account of finding love in the most unexpected of places, John and I would both like to hear Wu Shu's account of what she made of life in the UK... Good chat, good coffee, good company - an ideal Saturday morning. |
