Pirate Gran
Not everyone is lucky enough to have a Gran who used to be a Pirate.
But even though she has settled by the seaside Gran still gets into mischief.
So if you want to avoid trouble, don't make her mad.
Don't criticise her cooking.
And never EVER look underneath her bed...

"It's one small jump for a Gran, one giant leap for Grankind."

Twinbane: An Appalling True History
TWINBANE is the appalling true history of magician Septimus Goodfellow as pieced together from his diary and other lost possessions. Abandoned on the steps of a vicarage as a baby, Septimus grows up to be an adept of the Dark Arts.
A Master of Magic with a private fortune, he is determined to rule the world: but his vile plotting starts to go wrong when he accidentally conjures a vicious hell-hound bent on his destruction.
Driven back to England to escape its vengeful jaws, Septimus impersonates a parson while he puts the finishing touches to his plan to summon Merlin from the Great Beyond in furtherance of his ambitions.
But the twins he kidnaps to help him have other ideas: and in a terrifying climax on top of the church tower it is not Merlin who appears but someone altogether more surprising...
A fast-paced and funny page-turner for eight to 14-year-olds which will also appeal to fans of Terry Pratchet and Lemony Snicket.
"I started reading this in expectation of a learned treatise: I was appalled to find a story of unrelieved horror, indecency and sustained complex abuse of minors, animal cruelty and anti-clericalism of the most insidious kind. I laughed so much I got a hernia. And this is for children! What are we doing to the younger generation? Ban this book, if you can. You may smile enough to split the top off your head....." David Brett
"This is special.
"Beautifully conceived, beautifully plotted, and beautifully written." Sheila Belshaw

Geraldine Durrant
A journalist and feature writer, my work has been syndicated to newspapers and magazines world wide.
I was commissioned to write Pirate Gran after a shorter version of the story won a BBC competition to promote literacy.
As a mother and grandmother myself I believe encouraging children to enjoy books is an essential life skill - and reading together is a pleasure parents and children can share.
Rose Forshall:
Rose Forshall is the immensely talented young artist chosen by the BBC to illustrate my winning story.
Following the success of Pirate Gran, which has also been published in Spanish and Catalan, Rose and I have worked on a sequel - Pirate Gran goes for Gold - which was published in October 2010.
Rose is currently studying for her MA at Falmouth.
